LOVED this!!! Definitely a new comfort food for us, and I'm not going to ever change one thing in this recipe except that I don't use the nutmeg. The white pepper is critical, it really makes all the difference. Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe!
Made for A New African Tag Game / African Forum.
This is a definite favourite in our home. I have also tried substituting the beans with fresh carrots, it works just as wonderfully!!!
One of my favorite foods. I put a spoon or two of peanut butter in at the end for a slightly different twist.
Very nice side. My grandmother used something very similar to this. Made as written and think next time will leave out the sugar. Also think will cop the onion for a little better textur. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for this recipe. My mil's recipe is exactly the same except she adds a dash of worcestershire sauce right at the beginning and she browns her onions in it first before adding the rest.
Really liked this. Think it would be even better without the onion so will omit it next time. Other than that.. great. Used about 1/2cup water. It does reheat well.
wow...so good! i think i got the ratio wrong cuz mine are a bit more potatoey than the photos but what a fantastic side! i do think this could be even better with a few strips of chopped up bacon. made for zwt4.
I love green beans and will make this recipe again and again. Made for Tastebud Tickling Travellers for ZWT4.
My husband and I loved these smashed beans! This recipe reminds me of how my Grams cooked green beans with ham hocks. Cooked for a long time then add some potato bits...HEAVEN! We'll be eating these again, especially when our green beans come on later this summer. Thanks Zurie!
ZWT4: Zurie - yum!! This is a tasty new way now for my family to enjoy our green beans!! We loved it!
