This is from Everyday Food on PBS. This looked so wonderful that I had to post it so I wouldn't lose it.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 14 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • whipped cream, for serving (optional)

  1. Place cocoa powder in a medium saucepan. Stir in milk, a bit at a time until cocoa liquefies; add remainder. Add chocolate chips; melt over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and salt. Ladle into mugs with whipped cream, if desired.

I thought this was great! I used hemp milk, which is sweetened. I also added a little agave nectar and cinnamon and omitted the salt. It was very rich, but good. Thanks!

I scaled this down to one serving to have a late night "snack" that would help soothe my sore throat last night. I ended up making this twice, the first time I made it as written, and found the vanilla and salt to be too noticable for my tastes. The second time I omited both of those. It was very creamy, and rich. It really isn't very sweet (at least to me it wasn't)- think this is more of an "adult" version of hot chocolate. Thanks for sharing!
