directions

  • Cook on high to get it hot, if you have time, then lower the heat setting to low and cook 8 hours.
  • Don't fill the crock pot too full, due to foaming.
  • Stir, adjust the seasonings and serve.
  • If you like the soup creamy, take out 1/2 c. of the soup and puree in food processor, then blend back into the soup.
  • Serve

  1. Fantastic soup, tastes just like mom used to make. Very easy to make. I did boil the peas on the stove for a few minutes first then threw everything in the crockpot, I didn't have any problem with foaming at all.

  2. Once again, Dancer, great recipe! It's great.

  3. This recipe was good but I did add about 3 potatoes cut into cubes. I think the chicken boullion gave it much richer flavor.

  4. This is the best! I used ham and sweet pototoes and it was great.

  5. I love to make crockpot meals if I can during the week. This was good and so easy to put together. The only thing I added were some mashed potatoes at the end, it was just a tad bit runny for our taste. Otherwise will be making this again.

Tweaks

  1. Very good soup. The only change I made was to use ham instead of Canadian bacon and I cooked on the stove instead of the crock pot. I also added about 1/4 cup instant potato flakes to a half a recipe to make it a little thicker.

  2. Excellent recipe! Alittle too salty so I will eliminate the salt because I used chicken broth instead of water. Would add barley to it as well and increase the amount of chicken broth to compensate. Great flavor. Made with whole wheat rolls for a complete meal.

  3. Very good!! I used ham instead of canadian bacon and added some potatoes. Next time, I will just add a hambone and see how that is.
