We really enjoyed this apple pie, and the wonderful blend of flavours in French Tart's Recipe #219453 certainly made an enormous contribution to the flavour. Like Boomette, we don't like dishes overly sweet, so I followed her lead in omitting the white sugar. I used a shortbread crust and followed French Tart's suggestion of adding some flaked almonds to the really delicious topping. Thank you for sharing this recipe, MsSally. Made for Holiday Tag.

This was easy to do. But I didn't like the dried apples. Next time I'll use only apples. It gave me 2 pies. I didn't add the white sugar. I didn't want it too sweet. For the topping, I used butter. Thanks MsSally :) Made for holiday tag.

I am only reviewing the pie and topping here - as the sugar that was used in this, is my own recipe!!! This was GREAT! A lighter pie and with SO much flavour! We loved the crumble topping, I quite often do a similar recipe myself for fruit pies and mince pies. I made my own pie crust with 8 ozs of shortcrust pastry and I also had to cover the crust edges as suggested, as they were browing quite quickly! I added a FEW flaked almonds to the topping for a nutty flavour, the whole pie was devoured in 2 days......mainly by my husband who loved it! Thanks for posting such an inventive idea for an alternative apple pie MsSally! FT:-)
