I got this way back before I was married in a Good Housekeeping magazine. Been making them ever since! By the way, as Sharlene-W pointed out, I was actually married in a church, not in a magazine...

  2. Cream shortening and sugars, then add egg and vanilla and mix well.

Yummy! I did not add the walnuts, and I used about 3/4 tsp of nutmeg because I was afraid it would be overpowering. I made these for a potluck at DH's work, and they received rave reviews! I will make them again sometime so that I can enjoy more than one of them...I think they would be wonderful with a cup of coffee. Thank you for posting, I will make them again!

Very good and very easy to make. I don't care for nuts in cookies, so I left those out. The spices give a very subtle taste, not overpowering at all. Thanks for posting Julie! I'll be making them again! ETA: I made these again, only adding nuts this time - they are very yummy!! Unfortunately they still turned out flat, but they are yummy!! Thanks again, Julie!

This was so delicious! I love having the cinnamon and nutmeg in this recipe. I didn't roll the cookies in sugar, but it still came out sweet. Thank you for a great recipe.
