This sauce is so yummy. I used 28 ounces of diced tomatoes and omitted the tomato sauce. I used low sodium beef broth. I used Merlot for the red wine. I used fresh mushrooms. Thanks Papa D :) Made for Count Dracula and His Hot Bites for ZWT7

This was a huge hit, even with my raw-vegan friend! We've had hot days and today hit 108?, so I opted to adjust this recipe for the crock pot. I used ground turkey instead of beef. I cooked the turkey, bacon and the veggies per instructions, threw everything else in the crock pot, and then spent the rest of the day in the pool. Everyone really enjoyed this recipe. The bacon sets it apart from other spaghetti sauces, and the only thing I'd change is to add about a teaspoon of sugar next time. Thanks for sharing this recipe, Papa D. Made and enjoyed for the 2012 Cookathon in memory of Papa D.

Great flavours though I did have to omit the onion for dietary/allegy reasons and as my home made tomato paste (complements of a neighbour) in very intense I only added 2 tablespoons and over the spaghettie made a delicious meal with a side salad. Thank you Papa D and made in your memory for your cook-a-'thon..

I adapted the recipe to include some garden produce on hand and prepared in the crockpot on low for 5 hours. The sauce is delicious and has great depth of flavor. I added finely diced zucchini, green bell pepper, and a pinch of sugar. I will definitely make this again! Made for Papa D's Cookathon June 2012

Made this recipe pretty much as given, but I DID mince the mushrooms pretty fine, so that I didn't have any large pieces to frown about, & when it was finished, I added a generous half teaspoon of baking soda to cut, what I was sure would be a strong acid component from the tomatoes & its paste! This is a nice change from my usual homemade pasta sauce! Thanks for posting the recipe! [Made & reviewed in I Recommend]

Delish! This sauce has a rich flavour and wonderful smell that filled the house! I subbed the ground beef with meatballs and the result was great. I cooked it for 5 hours as you suggested. We served the sauce on penne and topped it with parmesan. Made for my teammate for ZWT7. Thanks Papa D! :)

I really enjoyed this sauce. I used peppered bacon from a local butcher and got lots of yummy bacon flavor. The onions and mushrooms (I used fresh) also picked up some extra flavor. I let it simmer for 3 hours while I was busy with some other cooking. It is Super! Thanks for sharing. Made for ZWT7-Italy.

This was a tasty sauce, I cooked it all in my crock pot to make things a little easier. I have never used bacon in a spaghetti sauce and didn't even notice it was in there. I used it in Baked Ziti With Spinach and Cheese . This was made for Fall PAC 2008.
