these spicy pita sandwiches (much like a taco) are great for both meals and snacks.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 12 cup chopped onion
  • 2 14 ounces taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 9 14 ounces refried beans
  • 4 pita bread rounds, halved crosswise (5 1/2 inch diameter)
  • 34 cup shredded cheddar cheese (3 ounces)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 small tomatoes, chopped
  • taco sauce


  1. in a skillet cook ground beef and chopped onion till meat is brown and onion is tender; drain off excess fat.
  2. add taco seasoning mix and water; bring mixture to boiling. reduce heat; simmer 15 minutes.
  3. stir in refried beans. spoon about 1/4 cup of the bean mixture into each pita bread round half.
  4. place, open side up, in a 10x6x2-inch baking dish. top each with some of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. bake, uncovered, in a 375 degree oven fo 20 minutes.
  6. top each pita bread round with some shredded lettuce and chopped tomato.
  7. pass taco sauce to pour over each.
  8. makes 4 servings.
