  1. Slice bacon into half-inch pieces and fry in pot over medium heat until almost crisp.
  2. Slice onion (with the grain). Add to pot and saute over bacon and fat until wilted (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add minced garlic. Cook for about a minute, don't allow to brown.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce.
  5. Add green beans and chicken broth and remaining spices.
  6. Simmer for 2 hours.
