Southern Rutabaga With Ham Bits

"A delicious southern dish! Rutabaga is a sweet root vegetable that is often seen on the menus of home-style cooking restaurants. It is of the turnip family. This vegetable goes well as a side dish with pork. Great use for leftover ham. Some people prefer it smashed, but we like it in small cubes. Tired of the same side dishes??? Try this one.....you'll love it!!!"

  1. OM Goodness. Even the word rutabaga sends childhood chills up my spine. Hated the word, smell etc. Unfortunately growing up in Georgia it was a weekly dish. Trying to get over it 58 years later. Made these with 1 1/2 cups of ham( flavor camoflage). Not too shabby for a hated food

  2. The ham with the ruteabaga sounds interesting..plus added sweet butter and a splash of balsamic vinegar..BUT!.. I will be cooking this one dish outside in the snow..regardless of cold temperature.. That rutabaga will stink the entire house for weeks.

  3. I love rutabagas and this recipe was really good. I cheated a bit and used canned rutabagas to which I added the ham. They were perfectly seasoned and went well with the pork chops that I also cooked. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
