Oh thank you thank you thank you. My granny made these all the time for every family get-together. We all fought over them and begged to take home the leftovers. When she died, no one had ever been able to duplicate them. I was so excited to find this recipe and ran out and bought the ingredients. They were just like Granny's. I actually cried when I was eating them because it was just like seeing her standing there by that iron skillet smiling at us kids fighting over the pies. I love you for posting this.
Wow. These ARE old fashioned fried pies. I used dried apricots, and they fulfilled all the fried pie fantasies/memories in this house. The crust also works well w/ prepared pudding pie fillings (like chocolate & coconut cream), jams and marmalade. Thanks so much!
I updated this to say I have made these a few times now, and recently made them with nice juicy Georgia peaches. Wow! were they good! May 28, 2008 I made these using Macintosh apples instead of the peaches, and they were wonderful! Brought back memories of when I was younger and my mama used to make them when I was little. This is the basic recipe my meme used as well. She always made them with pears. Pear tarts were her specialty! We also enjoy making them with black berries when they are fresh in the summer.
Thank you so much for this recipe, the reason i need it is bc my mom has lung cancer and has been fighting it for over a year now been thru radiation and chemo treatments and every since she started the treatments she has been wanting fried peach pies and i have had people say they would make her some for me to take to her bc the treatments has made her so sick she dont get out but they stgill havent so i am going to try your recipe out and do them myself for her and i will let you kno how it goes if they are a hit or not...lol...and thank you again for the recipe...i hope my mom likes them!!!
