directions

  • Mix all ingredients.
  • Bake in 450 degree oven until crust begins to brown (about 10 minutes).
  • Reduce heat to 350; bake about 40 minutes until the pie does not shake in the middle. It will look very dark, and will fall some after you take it out of the oven.

  1. I had never made chess pie before and my friend directed me to this recipe. I made it for my catering business and my clients loved it. I also ate a whole pie because it was so good. Thank you so much for the recipe. I have another southern chess pie in the oven right now.

  2. I've tried several recipes in the last fifteen years, trying to get this right. I finally got this and my pies come out excellent. I have made a few changes to this recipe. I do not use any milk and I only use one cup of sugar. Vinegar, cornmeal . eggs and flour. The pie is sooo good.

  3. Liked the pie but it is too sweet. I would cut the sugar down to 1 1/2 cups. Made it just like the recipe stated.

  4. Amazing! There is nothing like memories from childhood. I grew up with this pie and this recipe is every bit as good as I remember it. Made for *PAC Spring 2009*
