Very delicious and easy to make.
I will cut back on the brown sugar next time.

Too sweet. Basically meatloaf with beans and more of a babecue sauce. It's an OD of sugar- so cut back. Also more bay leaves and a little chili powder can pique it up a little.

This was a very good casserole, made it for our pulled pork weekend. Just as I was about to put it in the oven , i got a phone call, asking if they could bring two more with them, of course i said yes, and added a can of rinsed red kidney beans and a can of Primo spicy red pepper tomatoes. It turned out a little hotter than expected but was enjoyed by all, not a drop left!!I also cut the sugar in half, we loved the combination of flavours and it certainly was a great complementary dish with the pulled pork!! Thanks for sharing Di, have no doubt, we will enjoy these again!
I made them the night before and reheated them in the microwave, which worked great.

We enjoyed this recipe very much. As suggested, I reduced the amount of brown sugar slightly. I had to cook this at 250 degrees because I had it in the oven with Pulled Pork. Since I was cooking it at a reduced temperature, I left it in the oven for 3 hours. This was the perfect side dish to serve with the pork. Coleslaw and bread completed the meal. Thanks for posting this great recipe!

Okay, here's the changes I made with this recipe: Omit hamburger, celery, & green pepper. Add 1 pkg partially cooked and sliced bacon. I had a large crowd for a party (approx. 50 people) and made 5 times the recipe. There wasn't any left and DH wanted some leftovers. :( Next time I will make 6 times the recipe to have some left. Thanks Di for a great recipe!

We really enjoyed this recipe this summer. I solved the over-sweet issue by using plain great northern beans, rather than the Bush's. PERFECT fit! Also, you might want to edit the recipe to include what size can of beans to use. It went perfectly with Southern Fried chicken and homemade potato salad, Thanks!

I was making this to go with Pulled Pork so I elected to omit the ham. I also reduced the brown sugar to 1/4 cup after reading the other reviews. It is a rare day that both DH and I agree on a rating (so I just use my opinion ;) ) but this time it was 5's all the way. As I was cooking them in the same oven as the pulled pork I covered the dish for 2 hours and left it off for an additional 30 minutes. A perfect consistency for us. Thanks so much for posting - this will be a staple here.
