Very tasty bread, gets great loft. I wasn't sure what to expect, because I have regular sourdough starter; when refreshing my starter, I spun off 1 cup and mixed it with 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk and let it sit 4 hours. I then used 1 cup of that mixture as the Amish starter. I am so used to my 11.25-hour custom sourdough bread setttings that I tried it with this recipe. Because I still used 2 tsp. yeast ('cuz I wasn't sure how my experiment would work out), my loaf rose too much, so I should cut the yeast to 1 tsp. or nothing next time. However, the end result was still a delicious loaf of bread. Made for Name That Ingredient Tag Game.

Thanks so much for this recipe! You saved our starter from being thrown out. This bread is very good. We have a different brand of machine, but I used the French bread setting and the low crust setting like you said and it worked great. My husband and I had tried 4 different times to use our starter using other recipes and methods, but none of them turned out any good. The crusts were all very hard. This recipe satisfied us both! Thanks again.

This is a very nice bread! Easy to put together and uses up some Amish starter. I first was attracted to this because of the use of the starter, I then saw that it was made in the bread machine! Oh Happy Days!! This is not a sweet bread, as in coffee cake type, but a delicious white bread that has body. This tastes great, it made a delicious grilled tuna sandwich :) I imagine that it would make excellent french toast or stuffing, oh the uses! Thank you JanuaryBride for posting this most excellent recipe! One I will use again in about 8 more days :)

This makes a fantastic sandwich bread. Great with tuna salad. It holds together better than most homemade breads - and it uses that starter that we all get too much of!
