I can't get sourcream here in Greece, but I found this substitute on the internet!
- 1 3⁄4 cups cream
- 2 tablespoons buttermilk
- Stir cream and buttermilk in a pint jar.
- Cover and shake.
- Let stand at room temperature, uncovered, 6 hours to overnight, then chill well.
- When ready to serve sour cream, beat to medium-stiff peaks- not stiff.
- Serve immediately.
- Whipped mixture should double in volume.
Thank you so much. Today being Thanksgiving.. all the local stores are closed.. and I needed sour cream, which I forgot yesterday... desprately.. This works GREAT..
While living in Ireland I couldn't find sour cream anywhere and found this recipe to be a very satisfying substitute. Thank you sooooo much for posting!
