I make these at Christmas and other special occasions. They are so much better than the store bought. I got the orignal recipe from the internet.
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients, except vanilla. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved and butter is melted. Continue cooking, without stirring, until candy thermometer reads 248º or firm ball stage.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
- Pour into well-buttered 13x9 pan. Cool completely.
- Cut into 1x1-1/2 pieces. After cutting, wrap each caramel in cellophane wrap or plastic wrap.
