An extra-chewy recipe that will have everyone wishing theirs turned out as well!
- 59.14 ml margarine
- 453.59 g marshmallows
- 4.92 ml vanilla
- 1419.54 ml Rice Krispies (generic works fine)
- Melt margarine in a large pan over medium heat.
- Melt in marshmallows and stir continuously until smooth.
- Add vanilla (be careful it doesn't splash on you).
- Without removing from heat, add cereal. Stir until cereal is completely covered with marshmallow mixture.
- Pour into a greased (spray Pam works great) 9x13 pan. Let cool 2 minutes. Press flat with greased hands. Cool completely and cut into squares. Enjoy!
Ooh, yummy. I never thought to add vanilla before, but it completes the recipe perfectly. The trick is to take your marshmallows off the heat before they're all the way melted, and just stir the last lumps until smooth. If you overheat your mm's then you'll have hard bars. Learned that the hard way. Thanks for a great new idea on an old favorite.
The krispie treats were still soft, chewy, and marshmallow-ie, even after I added an extra cup of the cereal. I used real butter rather than margarine, and probably added just 15 ounces of the marshmallows (one 10-oz. bag plus half of a bag, 5-oz.). I always buy the Millville Crisp Rice Cereal from Aldi's whenever I make krispie bars, as they are identical (taste and texture-wise) to the Kellogg's Rice Krispie Cereal, plus a better buy price-wise. Like the original recipe, I removed the pan from the stove after the marshmallows were completely melted, then stirred in the cereal, and poured the gooey mixture into a buttered pan rather than using Pam from a spray can. I ended up with 24 (2-inch squares). Next time I may try other flavored extracts in place of the vanilla, just for the heck of it. Delicious bars, excellent recipe, and thank-you wyojess for sharing the recipe. This one's a keeper!
Came out very well. I added an extra cup of rice krispies and sprinkled some semisweet chocolate shavings on top, and they were gone within two days. I also took the marshmallows off the heat before they melted fully (thanks Erin), and they came out very soft and chewy.
