Smokey Seasoned Salt

"Spice up your life with this smokey seasoning. This is a great rub, or sprinkle on any meat of choice for an extra smokey flavor. Put into small jars with a pretty ribbon for gifts. I keep this next to my stove to season as I cook. I use this to help cut back on salt! If a recipe calls for 1/2 teaspoon salt, I'll use 1/2 teaspoon of this. I may be just a bit less salt be ever bit helps. ;)"

  1. I halved the quantities on this salt recipe as I already have lots of my own blends!! It was easy to make and I was fascinated by the mixture of the ingredients. It was a 5 star salt until I added the juniper berries; let me explain, I am not a big gin lover & I thought they overpowered the other ingredients just a wee bit!! So it was a 4 star recipe WITH the juniper berries. However, I made up ANOTHER batch WITHOUT the juniper berries and it was very much 5 star recipe again for me!! I do like juniper berries in cooking - I use them in terrines, pates, chutneys and with venison - but, in this salt mix, I just thought they overpowered the other gorgeous ingredients such as the chipotle pepper and smoked paprika! (It is just personal taste I must point out.) I used the salt mix in my scrambled eggs this morning and LOVED the subtle smoky flavours - very good indeed! So, Rita, THANKS for a superb mix - I am a herbs and spices fanatic, and this was truly a superb mix, which is VERY much a keeper for me. FT:-)
