Another Swedish recipe that I am posting for ZWT6. On Herrgårdsost Herrgårdsost is a semi-hard yellow cheese made from cow's milk with a mild nuttiness similar to Gruyere or aged cheddar. It has a few small holes (like Swiss cheese does) and is produced in large wheels coated with yellow wax. The name means "manor house cheese."
- 1 pie crust
- 8 ounces smoked ham, cubed
- 6 egg yolks
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1⁄4 lb gruyere cheese, shredded
- salt and pepper
- 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
- Press pastry dough into baking pan.
- Set oven to 350°F
- Combine egg yolks, sour cream, ham, and cheese. Pour over dough, like a pizza.
- Bake at 350°F for 40-60 minutes, depends on oven as they vary.
Not having any pie crust on hand plus no desire to MAKE any, I made a crustless quiche. Besides, it's all about the filling, right? DH commented that there was too much nutmeg. He's probably right but I adore the stuff so it didn't bother me. WOW, 6 YOLKS! This is a very rich dish but very tasty. Very easy to put together. It wasn't cooked in the time given so I cooked it about 10 minutes longer. It was just barely set although cooked through so we just ATE! Made for ZWT9, Mike & the Appliance Killers! :)
Loved this! Made as posted but also had to extend cooking time slightly, about 10 mins. Will definately make again, thanks for posting. Made for ZWT6.
Absolutely Wonderful Quiche!!! Great rich flavor :) I made this in a deep dish pie pan and had to adjust the cooking times, about 35 minutes covered and an additional 15 minutes uncovered, until center was set. This a keeper and will go into my breakfast/brunch rotation. Thanks for posting. *Made for SSaSSy's ZWT 6*
