  1. What a simple and delicious meal! I used Grandessa sausage also...the only change that I made was to use half cider and half chicken broth. BF is not real fond of sweet main dishes. It turned our perfect and I will be making this one again! Thanks Katha for another fave to add to my cookbook.

  2. Made this a while ago, but forgot to post a review. Made it with Turkey Kielbasa sausage, used applesauce and cider vinegar instead of apple cider. Added in a tsp or more of dijon mustard, all which added a nice bite! I'd suggest cutting apples and onions into wedges, as they do cook down a lot. We were very surprised at how much we did like this recipe! Will be making it again!!!

  3. Thank you for this recipe. I love the chicken apple sausage from Costco, but never know a creative way to use it. We all really liked this. Next time, I will use 2 apples and 1 whole onion cut in larger chunks. With the long simmer/saute time the onion really cooked down. The apple cider gave it a sweet taste.

  4. DELICIOUS, easy to make and inexpensive. Three of the reasons I make recipes over and over. This one's a keeper, so thanks for sharing!

  5. Quick, delicious and easy. I served with mashed potatoes as well and everyone devoured their plates. I only had apple juice on hand, so used that instead of the apple cider. I think I will add a splash or two of apple cider vinegar the next time I make this, to give it a little bite. Thanks for the great weeknight recipe.

Tweaks

  1. Pretty good but no way this could have made 5 helpings. I doubled everything but the meat (cabbage, apples, and onions WILL shrink down so I used a whole head of cabbage) and about 5 is all I got. Also, I didn't want the dish to be sweet so I used Fuji apples and instead of apple cider, I used 2 cups of chicken broth and 1/3 cup on apple cider vinegar (remember I doubled the recipe).

  3. Wow! My hubby & family loved this meal! I course chopped the cabbage and substituted chicken sausage with spinach in a casing, non-smoked and sliced. I used dried minced onions and apple juice. This would be helpful for someone who cannot have sodium nitrate contained in smoked meats.Quick, easy, satisfying. A real winner!I also served with mashed potatoes.
