  1. I was just in Reno this past week. I have also been to Las Vegas. I Love, Love, Smith and Kerns. I want to make it for myself. I taste like chocolate milk to me. I was told they put coke in it. Is that true? I want to know how they make it in Reno and Las Vegas. Can anyone give me the recipe for it. I know I should of asked, but It did not ever occured to me! Anyone Please Help!!

  1. This recipe is so wrong! I was taught how to make this drink by the son of the man who created this drink to begin with. It was created in the bar of the Patterson Hotel in Bismarck, North Dakota. It should be 2 ounces creme de cocoa, (not Kahlua) ( De Kuypers is the best), one to two ounces of cream (not milk)....mix, then add the club soda. One of my all-time favorite after dinner drinks!

  2. Was Kahlúa even available when this recipe was concocted? I like the cream to Coco better.

  3. Thanks for posting this yummy drink. I love kahlua and milk together. And with the club soda, it adds a little something. Thanks GW. Made for 123 hit wonders

  4. When I've traveled to Canada, they call this a brown cow. Not sure what it's called here. I live in North Dakota where a Smith and Kearns is made with Creme de Cocao, cream and soda. If you're watching calories, substitute half and half for the cream. A ND Smith & Kearns tastes like a milkshake...with a little kick!

  5. Delightful, quick and indulgent. ;) I really enjoyed this creamy treat tonight. It reminded me of a white russian a bit. ;) Thanks for posting a great cocktail to add to my collection!

Tweaks

  1. I just made these for folks who had never had one and they loved them! I learned the recipe as a bartender in the 1970’s. Tweak is 1/3 Kahlua, 1/3 cream and 1/3 soda. Pour from one glass to another to mix. Don’t shake! Delicious after dinner.

  2. I learned how to make these as a bartender in the 1970’s! Just made some for friends after dinner and they loved them. They’d never had one before. My tweak is cream, not milk and 1/3-1/3-1/3 kahlua, cream and soda. Pour from one glass to another to mix. Don’t shake, just mix! Enjoy and repeat!
