I made these for a party - they were a huge hit. The cocoa makes it taste like a mole sauce. Very good.
This is a delicious meal, I've made it several times.
This was soo delicious! I will definitely be making this again. I put avocado and lime juice on my tacos and it was excellent. It was great how fast it was to prepare. I cooked it for 8 hours on low and the pork shredded nicely.
I usually make Yummy Crock Pot Shredded Chicken for Tacos!. This recipe affords much more spice and flavor without as much sodium. I haven't tried this with chicken, however, I feel that it would be just as delicious.
I love the flavor enhancement that the cocoa adds, without adding sweetness. Authentic Mexican dishes often have the addition of cocoa powder. I did use half the amount of salt called for in the recipe and added a the juice of a half a lime & a good teaspoon of cumin (because we love it). Served with soft tortillas, shredded cheddar, shredded lettuce & sour cream. Thanks for turning us on to a new "easy" Mexican dinner. **Update, I have also made this with (instead of salsa); low sodium tomatoes with green chiles to reduce the sodium content and had great results.
YUM! So flavorful. Could not stop eating this!
This was really outstanding. Very easy to throw together in the a.m. and quick to serve in the p.m. Served on flour tortillas with the usual fixings along with some cilantro and lime. Even my daughter, who doesn't care to eat a lot of meat, said they were good. This will be made often in our house. I think the leftovers would make a great enchilada or tacquito filling too.
Great recipe! I will definitely make it again. I do recommend testing out your own favorite toppings. Fresh onion, avocado, tomato, serrano peppers, cilantro, lime, salt... All good ideas. Thank you for posting! It's a keeper!
