Slow Cooker Cabbage Roll Casserole

"Yummy and less work than the real cabbage rolls. There is no rice in this recipe, because I don't like rice in my cabbage rolls."

Reviews

  1. Really nice recipe. Made as written - flavour of the rolls but without all the work. Only change would be to add more garlic and maybe some Italian type seasoning next time is all.

  2. I did not have exactly the ingredients listed so improvised. I had a large can of Italian whole tomatoes. Did not have green cabbage, but purple cabbage from our garden. Along with bell peppers, zucchini and onions. I added additional Italian seasoning, diced green chilies and a teaspoon and a 1/2 of chicken bouillon granules. Oh and lots of garlic. For those who give a below average rating, try the food and make adjustments. This post will be on rotation as it’s filling, and very flavorful!!! Thank you

  3. I used 1/2 ground round, 1/2 ground sausage, no thyme, no green pepper, no rice (we are low carb). Instead of tomato juice or sauce, I used 4 cans diced chiles with jalapenos. I've found that spicing up some meals makes it more satisfying, thus carbs aren't missed. Hubby doesn't like cooked cabbage, but he loved it this way! Good recipe!

  4. I liked this recipe with a few alterations. I added an extra 8 oz marinara sauce and 1/2 tsp italian seasoning to this. Also, 2 hours before it was done cooking I added 1/2 cup brown basmati rice. Very good, and very easy!!

  5. Great casserole and takes little time to put together. I used ground round, garlic powder, added two cans of diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. I did add a layer of rice over the ground round because I use it when making stuffed cabbage. The only problem I had was I used a 6 quart crock pot and I didnt catch it before the sauce cooked out. It finished cooking on low in about 5 hours. The casserole was a thick stew type meal. Next time I make this I will use my smaller crock pot or keep a closer eye on the 6 quart. Tweaks

  1. I added some rice (about 2/3 cup raw rice) but I think I added it too early and it cooked to a mush. Next time I will wait until about 1/2 hour before serving to add the rice. May need to add a bit more liquid, too. I never use thyme in my stuffed cabbage, so I substituted a little oregano, and added a couple tablespoons of red wine vinegar for a sweet and sour taste. Family enjoyed this, but I like the rolls better, myself.

  2. To make it easier for my hectic life I buy 2 small bags of preshredded cabbage.

  3. Red Pepper Flakes and Paleo substitute for rice
