  1. I made this with some sirloin steaks that looked like they would be tough, and they turned out falling-apart tender. This is a delicious meal that even my picky eaters devoured. Great to eat with crusty bread to sop up the sauce. I used a can of beef broth instead of the water and beef bouillon, otherwise followed recipe as written. I'm going to try this with venison as well, I'm sure it will be wonderful.

  2. This was a tasty simple meal. It was ready for us when we got home from work. I served it plain with a salad but it would be good to serve over noodles or rice.

  3. The gravy in this was especially nice...We will be making this again

  4. My family was really pleased with this recipe. My daughter asked if she could just drink the broth. Next time, I will add some red and green sliced peppers. Made a nice gravy to put over garlic mashed potatoes.

  5. DH made this over the weekend and it smelled amazing cooking in the crock all day. He lightly sauteed the celery and onion in the pan after the steak, drained the oil and then combined the 'remaining' ingredients in the pan getting all the 'yummy pieces' sraped up and added to the crock. He was VERY pleased with himself for thinking that up! Thanks for such a great recipe!

I'm a stay at home mom with 3 adorable children-an 8 year old daredevil son, a 5 1/2 year old princess and a wild little 2 year old girl! I love to cook, and like having my little helpers in the kitchen! I usually love recipes that are completely from scratch (I still love them actually) but right now my focus is on having any kind of food ready by mealtime! It's a little crazy here lately. Every summer we have a huge organic garden, apple orchard and raspberry and blueberry patches, along with a woods full of wild foods waiting for me to learn what they are so I can collect them. I'm learning about wild mushrooms first, so if anyone has any tips, let me know. We also eat wild venison which my husband and I hunt ourselves. It's our favorite meat, since it's lean, organic and cheap! Some of my hobbies are: hiking, biking, rock climbing, gardening, playing in the water with my kids, or just swinging in the hammock with a good book. I go stir crazy if I spend too much time inside.
