These ribs are cooked in the oven on a very low temperature and can also be made in a crockpot, if you are using more than 4 pounds ribs then double the sauce ingredients. These ribs goes great with Kittencal's Crispy Potato and Green Onion Pancakes (Latkes) or Kittencal's Potato Kugel...or mashed potatoes. The cayenne pepper or Tabasco is only optional, add in for extra heat.
- 118.29 ml flour (can use 3/4 cup flour)
- 4.92 ml seasoning salt or 2.46 ml white salt
- 2.46 ml black pepper
- 2.46 ml paprika
- 4.92 ml garlic powder
- 1360.77-1814.36 g beef short ribs (bone-in)
- 44.37-73.94 ml oil
- 2 onions, chopped
- 14.79-29.58 ml minced fresh garlic (optional)
- 236.59 ml tomato sauce
- 236.59 ml barbecue sauce
- 59.14 ml molasses
- 59.14 ml cider vinegar
- cayenne pepper (optional) or Tabasco sauce, to taste (optional)
- Grease a roasting pan (large enough to hold the ribs and sauce).
- In a shallow dish combine flour with seasoned salt, black pepper, paprika and garlic powder.
- Dredge the ribs in the flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a large skillet; add in ribs and brown on all sides; remove to the roasting pan.
- Place the chopped onions over the ribs.
- In a saucepan mix together the tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, molasses, cider vinegar and fresh garlic (if using) bring to a boil and simmer stirring for 5 minutes.
- Pour the sauce over the ribs and onions.
- Cover with foil and bake in a 300 degree oven for 3-4 hours or until ribs are tender.
I'm with snappingfish - it's a no brainer can't fail recipe that is delicious. That's all I need! I also cooked it in a big cast iron skillet with a lid. I used pork country style ribs. I used smoked paprika instead of regular and montreal steak seasoning instead of season salt. Also, baked them for 1 hour with no sauce, then drained off the fat and added sauce and onions. Awesome.
HEY...Y'all...don't be so tight with those stars! This is a can-do for everyone, and it tastes great! Its against some rules to cook meat IN a BBQ sauce, but for the sake of being lazy, I would accept it here! I'm from the south, and I will tell you that this dish would pass at any place I've eaten! The one trick I employed, was to start with a cast iron deep frypan. Browned it, added the stuff, and baked it all in the one pan. Came out perfect!
If there were more stars I would give this delicious recipe more. I'm from the old school and get up early on Sunday morning to prepare dinner to be ready when getting home from church. Prep time about 30 minutes. I left out the garlic, and used honey in place of the molasses. This was the first sauce recipe I truly loved and will make in the future. I slow cooked on 300 degrees for 4hrs. The results were outstanding. My husband is not a big eater but he had seconds on this. Will definitely repeat in the future.
