Slow and Easy Beef Stew

"This is another comfort food favorite that my Mother makes that slow cooks for hours. This recipe can be doubled or tripled. Add as many vegetables as you choose. You can also add peas. At our house we serve the stew with rice."

  1. It doesen't get any easier than this! I browned the meat on the stove before adding it to the crockpot, and layered the remaining ingredients in the order given. I used about 4 handfuls of baby carrots, and 4 red potatoes, leaving the skins on. I cooked it on "High" for 3 hours and then turned it down to "Low" for another 3 hours. My family loved the stew, and I loved the fact that it was so quick and easy to put together. Thank you for sharing! *Made for 2010 Spring PAC*

  2. This is very easy and quick to put together for those really busy days. I used red wine instead of the water and added seasoned salt and garlic powder. Made for PAC Spring 2011

  3. Delicious stew! I made very few changes to this. I used beef broth in place of the water and added a few grindings of pepper. It was also only cooked for 4 hours. The meat was fall apart tender at that point. This stew would be good with other winter veggies i.e. turnip, parsnips. The aroma while cooking was wonderful. We found it to be quite flavourful despite not adding a lot of seasonings. Made for Fall '09 PAC

  4. Excellant braised beef. Very simple and easy to put together, I did mine in the crockpot, 5 hours on high was the perfect time for mine. I added celery sticks to it because we like the carrot celery combo, and instead of the mushroom soup I used beef stock, also added some thyme, herbs de Province and black pepper. Lots of flavour, I would make it again, thanks for posting.

  5. Wonderful stew! I used my crock pot and cooked on low for about 8 hours. I saw that Psalm and her family served this with rice and that sounded tasty so I did not add potatoes. Used a small bag of petite baby carrots and had a bag of green onions that needed to be used so threw those in too. Was out of celery so I added some celery seed and salt, pepper, lemon pepper and garlic. The mushroom soup made a nice flavored gravy and this was so good over brown rice. Made and reviewed for PAC - Fall 2008.

I live in Florida. Home to the Jaguars, the sun, and that pesky thing called rain.
