- 236.59 ml green pepper, chopped
- 680.38 g onions, chopped (about 6)
- 17 garlic cloves, minced
- 709.77 ml celery, chopped
- 354.88 ml mushrooms, chopped (canned mushroom pieces are fine, you can also add cooked beans or peas in place of or in addition to)
- 14.79 ml salt
- 1892.0 ml ketchup (8 cups)
- 29.57 ml wine vinegar
- 29.57 ml water
- 157.80 ml brown sugar
- 2.46 ml Tabasco sauce
- 44.37 ml Worcestershire sauce
- 14.79 ml celery seed
- 29.58 ml ground mustard
- 45 hamburger buns
directions
- Brown ground beef with peppers, onions, and garlic, stirring until meat crumbles and onion is tender; drain off fat.
- Mix in remaining ingredients.
- Cover and bring mixture to a boil over high heat.
- Turn heat down and let simmer for at least 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Spoon meat mixture over bottom halves of buns (about 1/4 cup meat mixture on each bun); top with remaining halves.
