Sloppy Joes

"I am allergic to onions so I am always looking for recipes that don't call for onions. This one is just fine without. I suppose you could add them while browning the hamburger. I'm guessing most of you will!"

  1. This is just like what my mother used to make when I was young. I have never liked Manwich and now I have all the goodness that I remembered a Sloppy Joe is.

  2. I made these tonight and my BF and son absolutely loved them as did I! My 8 yr old claimed he "hated" sloppy joes before this and my BF wasn't too thrilled either but HA! I showed them;) Thanks for posting. This is going to be a repeat recipe in our home.

  3. I always use Manwich and was craving it but didn't have any in the cupboard... I stumbled upon this recipe and had everything on hand so I decided to give it a try. Simply delicious!! No more Manwich for me! The only thing I did differently is I browned the meat in a skillet then transfered it to my slow cooker and dumped all the ingredients in the pot and let it cook on low for at least 3-4 hours. I like sloppy joes best that way because it allows time for the flavors to really develop in the meat. Will use this again and again... thanks! :)

  4. I made this without the onions, it was a very nice and easy meal...it reminded me of the sloppy joes my mom made when we were kids...Thanks!

Tweaks

  1. Loved it!! I always use Manwich, but wanted to try something different. I don't think I will be using Manwich again. :) I added chopped green peppers and substituted the prepared mustard for the one in the fridge. Also used Venison instead of beef burger.

  2. This was a snap to prepare and tasted great! I've made a similar recipe over the years and can't believe the difference the soup made. I added onion salt instead of onion and a dash of chili pepper....yummy! Thanks!

I am a special education teacher for the birth to three crowd! I love my job! My husband and I have 4 teenage daughters. He is so great--he keeps the 5 of us in balance..which isn't always the easiest job in the world! My picture came about while I was in college a few years ago. I was going crazy with tons of homework but felt compelled to make the family breakfast. I wasn't paying any attention to what I was doing and when I looked down, the eggs were smiling up at me! For some reason, I just love that picture and I don't really want to change it to a photo of myself. Biggest pet peeve: Tangled hangars! You try to get just one hangar and 3 more will somehow twist themselves around the one you want! I am very allergic to onions--I do not breathe them, eat them or touch them if I can help it. Sometimes I feel like we are an onion obcessed society! Start looking at labels! You would be surprised at how many boxes and packages contain onion in some form. That's okay....I make most things from scratch--which is probably better anyway.
