Here is a recipe from a school system when schools used to make their lunches from scratch. It's quick, easy and delicious.
- 1 1⁄2 lbs ground beef
- 1 (12 ounce) bottle ketchup
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
- Brown beef and chop with fork tines, not too fine and add salt.
- Combine other ingredients and let come to a boil; add beef. Simmer 20 minutes.
- Serve over hamburg rolls.
My husband and I really enjoyed this! I added some minced garlic and chopped onion while browning the meat. Next time, I might cut back on the vinegar, because it came through pretty strong in the finished product. But, all in all this is an easy, delicious weeknight supper. Thank you!
I made this with ground turkey because we were snowed it. I think it will probably taste better with ground beef but it tasted pretty good made with turkey. Thanks granny franny #2 for a very easy sloppy joe recipe. Bullwinkle
I've never made sloppy joe from scratch before, and this recipe makes it so easy! Other sloppy joe recipes require green pepper, and I usually don't have that on hand because they spoil so easily, so this recipe is great for me because I always have all the ingredients in my kitchen. I've added some chopped onion to give it a bit more texture, and I suppose if planned ahead, some green pepper or celery can be added too. My family just loves this!
