Skirlie (Scottish Oatmeal Stuffing)

This is quite a simple stuffing for chicken etc...


  1. Melt the butter and gently fry the onion until soft.
  2. Stir in the oatmeal, season and cook gently for 10 minutes.

Does this ever bring back memories. This is delicious though I eat it with guilt. I usually make it with vegetable oil or margerine instead just because I don't eat butter. It's very tasty. My Canadian husband thinks I'm very strange. For a nice slightly lighter twist, I sometimes add small chunks of apple an cook it along with the onions.
