Simple Stuffing for Turkey or Chicken

So easy, so delicious and a perfect, frugal use for day-old or stale bread. Makes enough stuffing for a 12-16 pound bird. Variations: Olives, 1 cup (green, stuffed or black) OR 1/2 pound mushrooms chopped up and sauteed in butter. From the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 12 lbs loaf bread, dried
  • 12-1 lb butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 14 teaspoon pepper
  • 14 cup onion, peeled and minced

Directions

  1. Remove crusts, but bread into 1" cubes and place in a large bowl.
  2. Cut butter into small cubes; toss together with bread cubes.
