Just steamed broccoli
- Put a steamer basket in a pot with the water and heat to boiling.
- Chop the broccoli into pieces.
- Once water is boiling, add the broccoli into the steamer and put the lid on.
- Steam for around five minutes or until broccoli is bright green and tender but still quite firm.
This way of making broccoli will be the only way from now on! This turned out beautifully. Yes, it is "just steamed broccoli", like it states from the get go. It gives anyone a starting point to do whatever they want with it. I made this for dinner last night and served this along with a homemade cheese sauce. It was delicious! (I wish I could say the same for my hubby's grilled pork-chops, ugh). Thank you for posting your method of making broccoli. I will never boil it again. (Made for "Name That Ingredient" tag)
There is a fine line between perfectly green, tender broccoli and over-cooked brownish-yellow broccoli and this steaming time of 5 minutes results in the perfect green and tender broccoli crowns. I tossed it with fresh lemon juice, kosher salt, and fresh cracked black pepper. Thanks!!
This is so simple and delicious, it should be outlawed. Ha! We had a bumper crop of broccoli heads this spring/summer, and needed quick easy recipes. (Note to self: Stagger the planting times of broccoli next year) Steam the broccoli as shown, never more than 4 min, you want to keep the crunch when eating, and we created dipping bowls of yellow and white cheeses, with a splash of hot sauce in each. Even raw is delish.<br/>This is a great way to start a meal, its not as 'heavy' as a cheese/broc soup. Yet another good thing about broc is that it freezes well for fall and winter soups.<br/>Main course was chicken quarters on the grill with lime/Caribbean flavors, a great contrast.
