Simple Fried Okra

"With only a few ingredients and about 10 minutes, you can enjoy light, crispy okra anytime. I prefer okra with a light flour coating versus corn meal. I want to taste the okra -- not the breading! Fried okra, a country staple, is best served hot alongside thick-sliced summer tomatoes."

  • Preheat skillet on medium-high until hot then add enough oil to coat bottom of pan.

Questions & Replies

  1. Is there a difference between using frozen okra or garden fresh okra? This is the first time I've grown okra and am wanting to make some fried okra but not sure if the process is different in using frozen vs fresh other than the cleaning.?

  2. I used fresh okra from my garden, It was simple and fast and very good. i washed it and cut off both ends, and beat 1 egg and set it soak in the egg for 15 min or so, dredged it in the flour (pepper and salt and cayenne) and fried it like you would anything else. I did NOT deep fry it. I do use an iron skillet, so heat is even . Did not have to fill up my skillet with oil,

Tweaks

  1. Add bread crumbs Italian ones work well with okra. The bread crumbs make for a crispier coating
