    "Mix up the flour, then you'll be fed. Mama's little baby loves shortnin bread." My grandfather used to sing that to me when I was a kid. I'd never seen a recipe for the famed "shortnin bread" until I started digging around for some very old, Southern recipes.

      Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
    2. 2
      Cream the butter with the brown sugar. Add the flour a bit at a time until mixed well.
    3. 3
      Roll out to 1/2-thickness and cut into "ladyfinger"-like slices. Place on a greased pan and bake for 20 minutes or until just beginning to brown. Cool completely.

      My Mama used to sing me the "Shor'nin' Bread" song when I was a child, so I just had to give this recipe a try! They were very good, not too sweet with a somewhat dry texture, perfect for dipping! My DH loved them too. Thank you Redneck Epicurean for posting this recipe and for bringing back a wonderful childhood memory!

      This was good. It was so easy to put together and I loved the slight sweetness and the buttery taste. Good recipe!

      I'm sorry to report that this one was a complete failure...It's such a simple recipe, I'm not certain what the problem was...I will try it a 2nd time and see if there is any change in the results...I will update this review if the results improve upon redoing...
