I found this in Sunset years ago and have made it often for parties. I mix it right it the serving pitcher so it's quick and easy. Use Torani vanilla syrup, or similar brand, the type used to flavor coffee, and a big 1.5 liter jug of the cheapest red wine you can find.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 cup vanilla-flavored syrup
  • 2 oranges, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 (750 ml) bottles dry red wine
  • ice cube

Directions

  1. In a 3 quart or larger pitcher, combine syrup, orange slices, lime slices and orange juice.
  2. Add wine to pitcher; mix and pour into ice-filled glasses.

I used a Pinot Noir and this was exceptionally good! Doesn't have to sit before serving and it's very smooth tasting.

This drink was absolutely wonderful....so refreshing on these hot humid summer days. I did make one sub....I used raspberry syrup in place of the vanilla syrup...that is just a personal preference.
