This is fairly authentic and a staple in our house. My husband's jordanian grandmother makes this soup exactly like this except she adds a bit of grated carrot and 1 small pureed potato with the other ingredients.

This was SO easy to make compared to all the other Lentil Soup recipes and it tasted authentic! I added some diced carrots and celery, and a sprinkle of salt and black pepper as well as some coriander. This recipe tastes just as good without the extras though :) Thanks!

I lived in the Middle East for 4 years and this dish was one of my favorites. The recepie is spot on. Just might have to use a bigger lentil to perfectly match what I had in taste and texture.

Delicious! This is one of those rare recipes where the recommended seasoning quantities are spot on. I prefer to puree the soup using a hand mixer prior to serving. If you choose to add additional vegetables such as carrots or potatoes, I recommend dicing them to achieve a soft texture by serving time.

I have been looking for a good, staple lentil soup recipe that I could start serving for my family during Ramadan. I tried this one when Ramadan started and have since made it at least 12 times. I make a fresh batch every few days. My family loves and it tastes better and better everytime I make it. I have doubled the recipe when I have had lots of family over and it still tasted delicious. Thank you so much for posting this.

Thank you so much for this recipe! I made this for my Saudi man and he ate three bowls! This is better than any other shorbat adas I have had.

Thanks for the recipe! I used split red lentils from the Arabic store, which cooked about 10-15 minutes faster than whole lentils. I only had 1 Maggi Chicken cube left, so I added 4 teaspoons of Maggi Tomato and Chicken flavored powder. I am saving this to my favorites and will definitely make it again!

this soup was soooo easy to make and delicious! I used dried parsley because I couldn't get fresh, veggie stock cubes instead of chicken, and didn't have any lemons. I can't stress enough how GOOD this soup is! thanks for sharing the recipe. (i hope my 5 stars showed up, my browser was having issues)

Thanks FIFI for posting! I am a soup addict and love lentils. This looked so interesting, I went out and bought tumeric which I never used before and some fresh parsley. My store didn't have red lentils so I used regular ones and I used veggie boullion in place of chicken. everything else is the same! I used the full teaspoon of tumeric too. What a mouthful of flavors for such an easy simple soup. Thanks for sharing a delicious middle eastern tradition with the rest of the world!
