One of my daughter's favorite mommy food. Now having to cook for herself, it was first on her list of recipes she had to have. She made it for her college roommate who is from England. Her roommate said it couldn't be shepherd's pie without lamb -- but she's requested it for dinner many times saying its a good American substitute for home.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Brown hamburger.
  2. While the hamburger is browning make the mashed potatoes and set aside.
  3. Drain the hamburger and put in a 2 quart casserole dish.
  4. In the same pan as you browned the hamburger make the gravy according to pkg directions and add the rosemary.
  5. Layer the frozen vegetables on the meat.
  6. Pour the gravy over the vegetables.
  7. Cover evenly with the mashed potatoes making sure to get them all the way to the edge to seal.
  8. Dot with butter.
  9. Put casserole dish on a cookie sheet and bake uncovered in a 350°F oven until browned and bubbly.

very good, super easy to make. Only change I made was adding shredded cheddar cheese on top of hamburger and then added the potatoes. Family really liked it.

This was really good! And easier than my usual recipe...I like using the instant mashed potatos instead of having to make them from scratch like I usually do.

Delicious and soooo easy! I wanted a very simple version of shepherd's pie to make tonight and this was exactly what I was looking for. My gravy bubbled up over my potatoes a bit - I may have needed to use a larger casserole dish (I used a deep 8x8). I was not sure about the rosemary but added it anyways and it added a nice flavor. I think I might add a bay leaf as well next time. Thanks!
