From a blog, "Homemade Bath Products", about, well, making your own bath products. :) I haven't tried making it yet, but I'm gathering recipes for making products with shea butter--it seems to work pretty well on my hand eczema (contact/allergic dermititis). Times are guesses and don't include cooling time.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 2 cups glycerin, soap base
  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 3 drops essential oils (optional)

Directions

  1. In a double boiler, melt glycerin soap base. Meanwhile, melt the shea butter seperately.
  2. Combine the glycerin base, shea butter, and essential oil (if using).
  3. Pour into molds. Cool completely before unmolding.

I love experimenting with new recipes for the bath! I had the inredients, so I ended up making this recipe. I melted the glycerine soap base down and measured out 2 cups. (The rest went into a old tupperware container...the glycerine just pops out when you need to re-melt it). Both these ingredients are very good for dry, damaged skin. I got 7 bars of soap, but that all depends on the size of mold you use. I used a heart shape mold for mine. If you have problems un-molding, put it in the freezer for 30 minutes and that will help release the soap. Any handcrafted soap makes a wonderful hostess gift
