I got this recipe from my sister-in -law. A true favorite in her house. A great way to dress up green beans. This dish is often served at holiday time or in the summer when beans are fresh from the garden.

- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1⁄4-1⁄2 teaspoon pepper (according to taste)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1⁄4 cup chopped onion
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Melt butter.
- Add flour.
- add all other ingredients except cheese and crumbs.
- mix well.
- add beans.
- Pour into baking dish.
- Top with cheddar cheese.
- Top with bread crumbs.
- Bake uncovered for 30 minutes Or until beans are cooked.
- Note: Frozen beans will work as well.
This recipe can make anyone like green beans. i also steam the beans or cook them in the microwave for a few minutes. This just insures that your beans are cooked all the way through. I grew up with this recipe and it was always a favorite in our house and still is. If Dotty2 would not have posted it i definitly would have.
Easy and very different! The only 'extra' thing I did was to steam the fresh beans for ten minutes, first, DH does not like them crunchy. Otherwise a rich and tasty way to serve beans, that everyone really enjoyed, the mix of sweet and tangy is just right. Thanks for a great recipe, Dotty! Made for Aussie swap#24, January 09
What a new and different way to prepare green beans! Never had them this way before and can't wait to make them again. Great recipe and easy to prepare. ANOTHER winner from Dotty2. Your recipes never fail to impress.
