J! This is sooo good! Even my 8 year old loved it! This was one of my picks for last weeks ABC chef game. It's so easy to prepare, and cooks so quickly, great for a quick evening meal. I added a couple TBSP of hoisin, and about 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, at the same time that I added the chicken back to the pan. The sauce is delicious, and there is plenty of it. Had it served over Basmati rice. I wold have added some extra spice as Mark suggested, but I was serving to the kids, so I held back. Thumbs up from all of us!
This was easy to make. I was hesitant about letting a cornstarch-based sauce simmer without stirring, but it worked just fine. If I make it again, I'll marinate the pork chunks in the sauce before adding cornstarch (the broccoli was fantastic, but the pork a little bland). Besides other seasoning suggestions, maybe a few drops of sesame oil?
I've had this on my list since it was posted and finally got a chance to make it. It's a very simple recipe to put together. The pork came out very tender and the sauce goes well with the broccoli. I tasted it while it was cooking and thought it might need a little more kick, so I added the hoisin sauce and also about 1 to 1.5 tsp of five-spice. Worked out well. This is great served over rice. I'm sure I'll be making it again. Thanks for posting Jelisa
My family really liked this recipe. I added fresh ginger when sauteing the pork and water chestnuts for crunch, but otherwise made no changes. Thank you for sharing the recipe!
Everyone's suggestions very helpful. I did others suggested, marinaded in ginger, garlic, five spice powder (<1 tsp) and soy sauce, but one change I made that added to flavor, was to grate the ginger. It brought out more flavor. Would make again! Not too bad if watching your calories, too!
very ordinary, average
I liked this very much. I did, however, change the cooking method a bit. I added thesoy sauce, ginger and garlic to the cut up chicken and maranaded it for a couple of hours. I then cooked the chicken with the green onion, removed it and cooked the broccoli using water (no broth on hand). I thickened this up with a bit of cornstarch and water, replaced the chicken and enjoyed all over rice. Thanks J e l i s a
This was a real winner in my house! Even my picky teenager liked it. The only change I made was adding a bag of frozen Chinese stir fry vegetables. I will defiantly be making this again! Thank you Jelisa for a wonderful recipe.
For us, this was just OK. I wanted to stay true to the recipe, so I followed it exactly and came up with a bland, mushy broccoli dish. The pork was very tender, and the method was simple. I think that if I make this again, I will try some of the other reviewer's suggestions to add some extra flavor and spice.
At the risk of sound like all the other reviews - WOW! A very easy dish to make. Pork was very tender and I undercooked the broccoli as we prefer a crisper taste. Will make this again and again. Thanks for sharing such a great recipe!
