Adopted from the RecipeZaar account. I haven't made these yet.
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 3⁄4 cup buttermilk
- MIx together all ingredients.
- Roll into a disk and cut into 16 wedges.
- Bake at 350 for 10 to 15 min until brown.
Sadly I didn't love these as much as I had expected to. The baking time is way off. After 40 mins @ 350 they were still floury-pasty white and I had to stick them under the broiler to bet a bit of browning on them. The exterior is though and difficult to bite (possible from the extreme amount of baking time). The taste the interior is lovely, the texture of the interior is coarse but fluffy and will hold butter very well. I think that with a temp adjustment up to 400/425 which will yield a shorter baking time these might be better.
