    here's a great coffee cake for when you'r sitting around the kitchen table having coffee and chatting with friends and/or family.

    Topping

    Directions:

      Combine all ingredients for topping.

      Grease and flour an 8" square cake pan or tube pan or oblong whatever you desire.

      Blend sugar and shortening together.
    4. 4
      Stir in beaten egg.
    5. 5
      Mix in salt, baking powder and flour.
    6. 6
      Add vanilla to milk and add to the batter altenately with dry ingredients.

      Spread half the batter into the prepared pan.
    8. 8
      Sprinkle half the topping on top.
    9. 9
      Cover with remaining batter and sprinkle with remaining topping.

      Bake in a moderate oven 350F.

      for 25-30 minutes.

      Allow cake to sit at room temp.

      in pan on wrack for 10-15 minutes before serving.

      Cut pieces from pan.

      This coffee cake was very good. It's great on a Sunday morning w/a cup of coffee and newspaper in hand. I cooked w/out nuts due to my son's allergies and still turned out fine. Simple and delicious!
