Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms

- 24 mushrooms, Remove and chop stems
- 1⁄2 lb Italian sausage
- 1⁄2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1⁄4 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- 1⁄4 cup dry breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
directions
- In skillet, cook sausage, stirring to separate, add some chopped stems, onions, garlic, salt and pepper and cook until sausage is browned and mushrooms are tender. Spoon off fat. (If sausage is not separate enough, pulse in Cuisinart to separate) Stir in cheese, bread crumbs and egg.
- Stuff mushrooms and lightly brush with melted butter. Arrange on rack in broiler and broil 4 inches from heat until lightly browned.

Good...but we'd like 'em a little bit spicer...maybe even just salt and pepper in the mix. My broiler was fine with the sausage/cheese at 4 minutes - but - the mushrooms were too uncooked for my tastes - so I'll try again with different spices and bake for around 15 minutes min. at 425 next time...Pac spring 2009
