Always looking for brunch recipes for pot lucks with friends. This recipe was a huge hit! Changed the preparation slightly, and cooked hash browns on large baking sheet before adding sausage, gravy, and cheese. Potatoes were crisp and delicious. Once all ingredients added together, baked until hot and bubbly and cheese melted. Yum!!!
So great!! I also have an egg allergy so this was something that I could eat along with the rest of my family!! We may have to make it a part of our weekly Sunday brunch!! Mmmm!
I made this exactly as stated. The sausage/gravy was great. But the potatoes ended up as a layer of mush and tasted like bad unseasoned instant mashed potatoes. I used brand name shredded hash browns and even dried them. If I try this again I'll put the potatoes on top so they can get brown and crispy.
This was good, though I forgot to layer the cheese between the hash browns and gravy, so I added it on top. It did seem to be missing something...though not sure what yet. Oh I did add some finely diced onion when I browned the sausage, out of habit from the recipe I normally use for Sausage Gravy.
Yummmm. I made this for my Easter brunch everyone loved it. I did use more milk than called for. Will definitely make again. Updated. I used one 26 oz bag of shredded hashbrowns and it was perfect. I like that this one does not have to be made ahead of time. Sometimes you need a great breakfast now, not tomorrow!
I was really skeptical when I read this but I wanted to make something for Sunday morning breakfast with some hashbrowns that I already had. I had some swiss cheese slices that needed to be used so I added that and just a little bit of cheddar. This dish is a hit at our house! Great side dish for fried eggs and biscuits.
VERY GOOD! I have been on a breakfast kick, and this dish was tasty and filling! I used Hot sausage, pepper Jack cheels and added some chopped onions to the mixture as well. Hearty meal and I will be making this again soon! :) Thank you.
A huge hit with My boys and friends. I used fozen packs of hashbrowns with red peppers and green peppers. Also added chopped onions (for DH). I used regular chedder cheese .This was a HIT. We will be making again. Thanks for an awesome recipe.
This made a very easy, delicious breakfast dish. I browned the sausage last night and refrigerated it. Then this morning all I had to do was reheat it and make the gravy. Assembling and cooking the casserole was a breeze. Mornings are always so hectic and it's wonderful to have recipes like this that come together so easily. We love sawmill gravy and it really made this dish special. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
This is really great! I halved the recipe and it worked great. Even with halving it I used 2 Tbsp flour and 2 cups milk for the gravy. I also added the full amount of cheese, because we love cheese. You could doctor this up if you like things more spicy by using hot sausage or adding jalapenos or whatever. We also had an idea to try it with hamburger meat instead of sausage for a dinnertime casserole. All that to say, it was a success at our house. Thanks for the great recipe!
