So delicious for a chilly fall evening potluck! Couldn't go shopping but had the sausages in the freezer and the cabbage and all the spices, etc. One substitution and it did work well: Amazingly, I used a can of apple pie apples, omitted the brown sugar, and it really worked well. The casserole even looks really pretty with the sausages arranged on top. Thank you, Ms. Ayon. Healthy, tasty, versatile recipe.

  1. Cut sausage into 3-inch lenghths on the diagonal.
  2. In large, heavy, frying pan, heat butter. Add the onions, cabbage, chicken broth and bay leaf. Bring to a boil and cook 5 minutes.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients, along with the sausage.
  4. Serve portions of the cabbage topped with pieces of sausages.
