I had this at a friends and this is soooo good, I took her advice and put a few pats of butter on top. Also stir this in your crockpot every hour or so..
- 4 lbs smoked sausage
- 4 lbs sauerkraut
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons caraway seeds
- 3 teaspoons basil
- 9 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 1⁄2 cups hot water
- Open your bag of sauerkraut and rinse and drain and put in bottom of large crock pot. Cut up sausage and lay sausage on top of kraut. Put seasoning's and water on top of all and mix with spoon really good.
- Cook on high for 4 hours stirring every hour to mix well.
Loved the addition of the basil.
Faith! We loved it! DH tossed this together...before work....and became my Hero that evening!! DH added some peeled baby potatoes which cooked up very well with the sauerkraut and spices! Thank you for posting!
This dish was perfect for this cold and rainy day. The brown sugar gave just the right amount of sweetness to th sauerkraut. I served this with Ciabatta bread and the meal was complete. Thanks for sharing this quick and easy dish, faith58.
