Satin Balls

READY IN: 10mins
Recipe by Marmish

This recipe is great for dogs who need to put on weight. It was originally posted on Wellpet and is a complete food for your dog. It's easy to mix up a batch, and easy to travel with, as the frozen packs take a while to thaw. (The egg shells counteract a protein in the yolk that can unbalance a dog otherwise.)

I have made these for my dogs and they loved every bite. But be careful - these can make a dog fat FAST! Wouldn't want them to eat this all the time. One tip: form the mixture into bite-size balls (or bullet shape) according to the size of your dog's mouth. Freeze portions in ziplocks and thaw as needed. The smaller shape makes defrosting a little quicker, and you can hand feed without a lot of mess.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 10 lbs hamburger meat (the cheapest kind with at least 20% fat)
  • 1 (16 ounce) box Total cereal (or comparable natural brand)
  • 1 (42 ounce) box instant oatmeal
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar wheat germ
  • 1 14 cups vegetable oil (not soybean)
  • 1 14 cups unsulphured molasses
  • 10 eggs (raw with shells crushed!)
  • 10 (1/4 ounce) envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, like you were making meatloaf.
  2. Divide into 10 portions and put in freezer bags or other containers.
  3. Thaw as needed and feed to your dog.
  4. (Do not cook.).
