Sarah's Caramel Apple Cake

This cake is frosted with a thin caramel flavor frosting when its hot. This helps keep all the moisture in it and it also kind of sinks into the cake to make it super flavorful. This cake is sinfully good.

  1. Cream the sugar, oil, lemon juice, vanilla and eggs together. Add the dry ingredients.
  2. Fold in the apples and nuts.
  3. Bake in a greased and floured 9x13 inch pan for 1 1/2 hours at 325 degrees - start checking the cake at 60 minutes to check for doneness and after that in 10 minute intervals.
  4. To make frosting: Pour all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for an additional 2-3 minutes - stir constantly!
  5. Pour the frosting over the hot cake - I let it cool just a bit before pouring the frosting on.
