Salisbury Steaks

"This is one of the best Salisbury Steak recipes I've ever had. It has just enough Zing to tantalize your tastebuds. I always double the sauce part of the recipe so there is plenty of gravy to go around, but you can decide for yourself. Sliced onions can be added on top of the steaks while simmering in the gravy. Serve over rice or mashed potatoes. These also freeze well."

  • IN A BOWL BLEND: cream of mushroom soup, prepared mustard, Worcestershire Sauce, prepared horseradish.
  • IN ANOTHER BOWL MIX: egg, bread crumbs, onion, salt, pepper, 1/4 cup soup mixture from above, and ground meat and mix well.
  • Form into 6 patties.
  • Brown patties on both sides (turning only once) on top of stove in lightly oiled pan.
  • Mix remaining soup mixture with 1/2 cup of water.
  • Add to pan.
  • Cover and simmer 10-15 minutes or until beef is fully cooked.

  1. I have had this twice and I really like the flavors. It is easy to make. Only thing I changed was I used chicken broth instead of water.
     
  2. This had a great flavour. The meat patties fell apart quite a lot though. I added some BBQ'ed onion to the sauce which was a great addition. In the end it was more like mince meat in sauce but it did taste great!
     
  3. The soup mixture looked awfully greenish-grey to me, so I added some beef base to improve the color. The taste was wonderful though and we all enjoyed the recipe.

  5. YUM! This was wonderful, and super easy to make. I followed all the steps but finely chopped a 4oz can of mushrooms and added it to the meat mix, and did the same with another can and added that to the sauce. I didn't want to waste the other half of my onion, either, so I chopped that fine and added it to the sauce. It cooked up and added a bit more flavor to the sauce. This was so simple and so easy, and so TASTY that I'm going to make it again with my niece, who's learning how to cook. Thanks so much for posting!

Tweaks

  1. Super yummy twist to the salisbury steak recipe I grew up with. With this recipe I used ground venison instead of ground beef. Because venison doesn't have as much fat to help bind it together, I added an extra egg an doubled the breadcrumbs. Turned out D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!!!

Hmm... let's see.. Cooking is my passion... I'm retired now and able to cook and bake every day. I think the most helpful cookbook that I own would have to be The New Doubleday Cookbook. I just love kitchen gadgets and have many of them. Besides cooking I love to sing and belong to the Sweet Adeline's International. I get very annoyed at people who are LATE! I think it's just as easy to be late as it is to be on time. Well.. thanks to all of you at Zaar for all of your terrific recipes and ideas that bring my friends and family much joy and happiness.
