I really liked the flavor of this!!! Served with mashed potatoes.
The flavor was a bit salty and the patty's did not stay together. The only change that I made to the recipe was replace the chopped onions with onion powder because my family "thinks" they don't like onions and freak out if they see them in anything! So, to get the flavor intended for a recipe I have come to use that trick. The recipe was very quick and easy, so I will probably try it again but I will just add more bread crumbs to help hold the patty's together.
This is a winner! My DH cringes at casseroles and any meat patty that's not in a bun. This creates a problem as we have 50 pounds of ground beef in the freezer. He went back for seconds and even took a plate in to work! I browned the onions in the skillet before step 6 and added a shake or two of garlic. This is a great easy meal. Served it with mashed potatoes and assorted veggies on the side. Thank you, this will be added to my regular rotation until the freezer is empty!
Hello Chipfo, what a great recipe! Instead of Salisbury Steaks I opted to make meatballs, using canola oil in place of the margarine. I added a little horseradish to the meatballs. Sauteed red & yellow bell peppers with the onions & mushrooms (adding non stick cooking spray.)Otherwise, for the gravy I cooked just the way the recipe reads. If it got a little low on cooking liquid I added beef stock. They were delcious - served it white rice, black beans & sweet plantains, and everybody who ate it wanted to know why we hadn't made it sooner! They are discussing the possibilities of putting it on the menu for our restaurant at the "home." Thank you for a lovely recipe, Diane :)
