I lived in Lincoln, NE for about 5 years and always loved Runzas. Now, living in CA, I remembered a friend making a Runza casserole and found this recipe. My boyfriend had never had a Runza and kept asking, a WHAT? He loved it, as did I. The only thing I added was about 1/4-1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese that I had on hand and needed to use up. This was too much for just the 2 of us, and next time, I'll halve the recipe. Thank you for a great recipe!

I originally got this recipe from my mother-in-law, but have since lost the recipe. was very excited to see that a few people actually posted this recipe and can't wait to make it again! the only thing my mother-in-law's recipe adds is a little worcestershire.

We love this casserole. I didn't have mozarella on hand so I used mild cheddar. Interesting, we both thought it tasted kind of like White Castle cheeseburgers only not greasy. It was easy and very good - leftovers heated up well.
